The year is off to a great start for the team that took part in the 2 Tonnes (2 Tons) workshop, whose objective is to raise awareness among employees about the impact of human beings on climate change.
If the Paris Agreement works to limit the rise in temperature to less than 2°C by 2050, the “2 Ton workshop” is mobilizing to meet it, by making humans reduce their emissions and aims for them to go to 2t eq.CO2e*/human.
So how do we do it?
In the form of a quiz, employees spent a morning working on their emissions by declaring their mode of transport, their eating habits, their consumption of energy and goods and services. A joyful mess that launched debates and allowed everyone to understand that their individual impact is as important as the collective impact. Everyone left with their own reduction target and can now act on their balance sheet by declaring their changes in habits.
As a real company policy, the decarbonization of the Tonnellerie is a subject of every moment: production, transport, goods and services, suppliers. While the company completed its carbon footprint in 2019, it only uses its figures to make them evolve and lower its footprint, which it offsets in particular with the Plantons pour l’Avenir (Plant for the Future) scheme (15,000 trees per year since 2018) and the planting of its arboretum of 10,000 trees on its production site.
“The carbon footprint is not frozen, it is moving forward with us,” says Raphaëlle Reeves, QSE Manager and attentive to serious and validated low-carbon initiatives.
In November 2021, Tonnellerie Baron and 15 other French companies were selected by the BPI to join the innovative « Decarbonation Accelerator » program.
Accompanied by a referent specialized in energy transition, the Cooperage will gradually take control of its action plan based on indicators and set objectives, once the current diagnostic period is over.
All these measures are in the hands of Nicolas Tombu, Associate Director and Raphaëlle Reeves-Ribière, Environmental Safety Quality Manager.
Every day, the 60 employees are made aware of the efforts they must make to approach the 2-ton target individually and collectively, to reduce the carbon weight per barrel, to the point of achieving zero carbon after compensation.
*Ton of CO2 equivalent and allows all greenhouse gases to be accounted for in the same unit.
